Moral, Social, UAE Values and Arabic Studies in Al Karamah School
Al Karamah School focuses on developing a rich spiritual, moral, social, and cultural curriculum alongside academic studies and therapeutic
practice. The school’s educational curriculum seeks to look beyond academic excellence therefore it applies a holistic approach to education which gives special emphasis to social, cultural and moral education. Al Karamah school combines the Arabic and British curriculum with autism friendly practice. This approach is evidenced through:
- Teaching Arabic is vital at Al Karamah school, to support our students for life in UAE and for reinforcing national identity. Teaching Arabic includes teaching stories and characters of special importance such as HRH Sheikhs of UAE. Teachers use the Emirate dialect in their lessons. This enhances the aspirations of citizenship.
- Islamic studies are divided into The Holy Qur’an and Hadeeth (Prophet’s sayings), Islamic values and principles, Islamic law, etiquette, Seerah (Life of the Prophet) and Faith. There are Quran chapters, Hadith, and Islamic lessons about promoting morals such as generosity in charity, honesty, empathy, and respect. All of these contribute to building the Arab moral Muslim Emirate character.
- The subject of social studies includes lessons about national identity, citizenship, government, values, culture, ethics, the individual and society and the national economy.
- Moral education is taught in the school as a one class subject to Explorers but embedded in the curriculum in the Champions phase. The Moral education and Sanaa – Emirate etiquette components emphasize the building of UAE Character, heritage studies and relationships with the community. All students study moral and social studies which support the development of positive character traits.
- The hiring of over 45 UAE Nationals allows students to listen to Emirate dialect and have a good UAE role model.
- The students start the day by listening to and reciting the Quran, wake up shake up activities and the daily playing of the national anthem.
- Celebrating events such as National Day, Flag Day, Martyrs Day, Emirate Children Day, Sheikh Zayed Humanitarian Day.
- Students celebrate in their social studies lessons the achievements of UAE Nationals such as Hazaa Al Mansoori and the Emirate space project.
- All the other events like Haq Al Laila and Eid celebrations focus on the heritage of how the UAE celebrates these religious events.
- The students go to many trips which support our students’ moral and cultural education. Students go to different historical places e.g. Abu Dhabi library, Grand Mosque, theatre, Louvre, science festival, the zoo and other local parks.

تعليم اللغة العربية في مدرسة الكرامة
ندرس العربية اعتمادا على مناهج وزارة التربية والتعليم في دولة لإمارات العربية المتحدة لكن نقوم بتعديلها لتناسب الطلبة ذوي التوحد وبما يتناسب مع مستوياتهم ومهاراتهم وقدراتهم .
تعليم اللغة العربية لأطفالنا يبدأ عند التعرف على أصوات الحروف القصيرة و الطويلة ثم التعرف على أشكال الحروف في مواضع مختلفة من الكلمة. بعد ذلك نبدأ بالتهجئة وهي من المهارات الأساسية لتعلم القراءة لذلك نحن نركز عليها وندرِّب الطلاب على كيفية التهجئة ومن ثم ننتقل إلى مهارة تحليل الكلمات إلى مقاطع صوتية مما يسهم في تطور مهارة القراءة والكتابة لدى الطلاب.
لاشك أنكم تعرفون أن هناك أربع مهارات أساسية في اللغة العربية وهي التحدث والاستماع والقراءة والكتابة لذلك يستمع طلابنا للقصص القصيرة ثم يجيبون عمّا يصاحبها من أسئلة فهم واستيعاب أي أننا ندربهم على فهم المقروء وليس القراءة فقط كذلك نستلخص من تلك القصص دروس يستفيد منها الطلاب في علاقاتهم الاجتماعية ومهاراتهم الحياتية.
أُنشئت مسابقة فصلية يشارك بها الطلاب بمختلف مستوياتهم القرائية و تكون على مستوى المدرسة تشجيعاً منا للطلاب على حب القراءة أطلق عليها( مسابقة قارئ الكرامة).
بالنسبة لمهارة الكتابة يتدرب طلابنا على أصول كتابة الحروف والكلمات باتجاههما الصحيح ابتداءً من مرحلة التنقيط وصولاً للاعتماد على أنفسهم.
أما بالنسبة لمهارتي التحدث والاستماع فهما متلازمتين يتعلم طلابنا التواصل باللغة العربية الفصحى و كذلك باللهجة الإماراتية المحلية حرصاً منا على تعزيز استخدام اللهجة الإماراتية عند الحديث ونحرص على إدخالها في حواراتنا اليومية.
مسابقة قارئ الكرامة هي مسابقة سنوية تقام في مدرسة الكرامة والهدف منها حث الطلاب على القراءة باللغة العربية وتعزيز شغفهم وحبهم للقراءة بلغتهم الأم.
مادة التربية الإسلامية
ندرس االتربية الإسلامية اعتمادا على مناهج وزارة التربية والتعليم في دولة لإمارات العربية المتحدة لكن نقوم بتعديلها لتناسب الطلبة ذوي التوحد وبما يتناسب مع مستوياتهم ومهاراتهم وقدراتهم .
يتعلم الطلاب تعاليم دينهم الحنيف بشكل مبسط كقراءة أذكار الصباح لتحفظهم من كل مكروه و يتعلمون قراءة القرآن وكذلك حفظه كل حسب مستواه وقدراته .
يركز المعلمون في هذا القسم على غرس قيم الإنسان المسلم في أذهان طلابنا وتعليمهم كيفية الوضوء و الصلاة وأخذهم للصلاة في مسجد المدرسة مع متابعتهم اليومية و توجيههم للصلاة بشكل صحيح.ويتم تعليمهم أن الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم هو أسوتنا وقدوتنا عند تعاملنا مع الغير من خلال احترامنا للكبير وعطفنا على الصغير و أن نحب الخير للغير و أن نعمل الأعمال الصالحة التي تقربنا إلى الله.
Islamic studies is taught in 6 sections.
1. The first section focuses on:
God’s message/words is the Holy Quran – We try to select chapters that have imagery and storytelling and that can be symbolized by photos to students such as the elephant chapter , and figs etc.
2. Islamic Faith :The 6 pillars of faith in Islam. It is hard for students as we cannot use photos or visuals . They are abstract concepts that are difficult for our students to visualize therefore, we focus on less abstract concepts.
3. Islamic morals and values such as cleanliness, honesty, kindness and how to eat and even how to use the bathroom .
4. Prophet Muhammad-Peace Be Upon Him- sayings and teachings (Hadith Sharif). We focus on shorter Hadiths to make it easier for students to understand and engage in.
5. The bibliography of Prophet Muhammads prophecy and his companions – We celebrate Prophets birth every year .
In preparation for Ramadan, we celebrate Hag Al Leila, a local festival here in the Gulf that occurs 15 days before Ramadan where children receive candy from their family & neighbors.
We celebrate Ramadan rituals by integrating the theme of Ramadan in various classes, even in English classes. These themes consist of stories, and teachings about Iftar and suhoor and traditions in Ramadan.
At Al Karamah school, we teach Islamic education classes in all classes from tiny sparkles to the training institute of 2 classes per week.
Some of our students have participated in state-wide Quran competitions – Teachers encourage students by collaborating with parents and incentivizing children with gifts.
During our morning wake-up, shake-up, students recite Quran short chapter every morning.
Additionally, we have a prayer room , Majsid where students who are able go to pray noon prayer with their designated TAs.
We try to incorporate autism friendly strategies/games into our classes and teachings so that students can comprehend abstract concepts in religion.

مادة السنع الإماراتي
في مادة الدراسات الاجتماعية يتعلم الطلاب عن القادة المؤسسين و كيف قام الاتحاد مع ذكر كل إمارة وما يميزها و من هو الشيخ الحالي لها وأهم معالم الوطن و يتعلم الطلاب ألوان العلم الإماراتي ودلالاتها. يتعلم الطلاب حب الوطن و الحفاظ عليه و حماية ممتلكاته العامة . ويتعرف الطلاب على الزي الرسمي للذكور والإناث في دولة الإمارات. وتم التركيز على الدول المجاورة مثل دول الخليج العربي وأهم ما يميزها و ما القاسم المشترك بينهم وبين دولة الإمارات. تم تعزيز الآداب المتبعة في دولة الإمارات من خلال دروس السنع. السنع هو مجموعة من القوانين والقواعد التي تحكم السلوكيات والآداب في تعاملات الأفراد مع الضيوف والأهل فيما بينهم و هذه العادات لا تنتقل بالرواية و السرد فقط إنما يستقيها و يتعلمها الفرد من البيئة المحيطة لذلك نحن في مدرسة الكرامة نُعلم الطلاب السنع الإماراتي في المجالس وفي صب القهوة وفي الضيافة الإماراتية بشكل تطبيقي وعملي من خلال تطبيقنا لسنع المجالس بداية من خلع النعلين انتهاءً بكيفية الجلوس بشكل جيد و التزام الصمت عند حديث الكبار فيما بينهم وكيفية صب القهوة ابتداءً من مسك الدلة باليد اليسرة و انتهاءً عند هز الضيف للفنجان دلالة على اكتفائه من شرب القهوة لذلك نحرص على تعليم السنع من خلال التطبيق العملي في المجلس المصغر في المدرسة.
Moral studies is taught by social studies teachers for explorers and it is embedded in Little Champions . Students study about various moral situations and how to act in them. This subject aims to visualize morals in a direct way by teaching them to be caring, honest, sharing, taking turns, friendship , equality and treating everyone the same and being kind.
We teach these morals through role playing , photos and PP.
We try to teach them about friendship and self confidence .
The subject also teaches heritage stories about Bedouin culture and the UAE in the past and the present .
Students studied the local games that their ancestors used to play as children and practiced these in school .
Since there are 2 classes per week , this is the utmost that we can cover .
The school cares a lot about censorship , dress code which is part of caring about what is appropriate for the values and culture .
Moral education for Little Champions is embedded in the curriculum . Class teachers teach life skills and PHS skills .
تعليم مادة السنع في مدرسة الكرامة
مادة السنع هي مجموعة من التقاليد الاجتماعية الإماراتية التي تُمارس منذ عقود. تُركز هذه المادة على الهوية الوطنية الإماراتية من حيث الثقافة واللغة والسلوك، وتهدف إلى تعليم الطلاب هذه الأعراف وتشجيعهم على ممارستها. الغاية من تدريس هذه المادة هي ضمان استمرارية التقاليد الإماراتية أو نسيانها في ظل الحداثة والعولمة.
تعطي هذه المادة الفرصة للطلاب لتطبيق هذه التقاليد الاجتماعية داخل الصفوف الدراسية، حتى لا يتم تطبيقها فقط في المنازل أو أثناء التجمعات العائلية.

طقوس شهر رمضان في العائلات الإماراتية
نعمل عند تدريس هذه المادة على الرجوع إلى المغفور له بإذن الله تعالى صاحب السمو الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان، طيب الله ثراه، باعتباره قدوة ومصدر إلهام (ويُعرف أيضاً باسم "بابا زايد"، ونشير أحياناً إلى الطلاب بـ "عيال زايد"). نربط بين الانتماء للإمارات (كابن أو ابنة لزايد) وبين ضرورة تمثيل الدولة خير تمثيل، وإظهار السلوكيات الإماراتية الأصيلة مثل الصدق، والكرم، والضيافة، واللطف، واحترام الآخرين.
ترتبط العديد من تقاليد "الصنَاعة" بالمناسبات الدينية، وخاصة الأعياد مثل عيد الفطر وعيد الأضحى وحق الليلة وشهر رمضان، لذا نقوم بربط هذه المناسبات بجذورها الإسلامية.
هذا الموضوع اختياري ويتم تدريسه ضمن مادة التربية الأخلاقية والاجتماعية، وهو يلعب دوراً كبيراً في بناء الشخصية الإماراتية.
Sana’a is the Emirati social traditions that has been practiced for decades. This subject focuses on Emirati national identity in culture, speech, and behavior. It aims to teach students about these norms and encourages them to practice it. The purpose of the subject is to make sure that Emirati traditions do not get lost and forgotten between modernization and globalization.
This subject gives students the chance to practice these traditions in classrooms and not just at home in family gatherings.
Examples of AlSanaa’ that we teach in our school:
- The Emirate greetings in various occasions
- The Emirati hospitality culture which includes coffee and majlis traditions and manners and how to behave in these settings.
- Organizing coffee, dates, and other servings
- How to behave in visitations and gatherings
- Emirati dress and behavior while wearing national dress
- Different ways of wearing national dress and when to wear what and how
- How to greet grandparents, parents, and family hierarchy norms
- Ramadan rituals in Emirate Families
In teaching this subject, we try to refer to The late His Royal Highness Sheikh Zayed Al Nehayan , May Allah bless his soul , as a role model (also known as baba Zayed, we sometimes refer to students as (Eyal Zayed means Children of Zayed ). We try to link being an Emirati (son/daughter of Zayed)and the fact that you have to always represent your country well and exhibit Emirati behaviors such as honesty, generosity, being hospitable, kind, & respecting of others.
A lot of Sana’a traditions are linked to Islamic events especially in holidays such as Eid Al Fitre and Al Adha , Hag Al Leila and Ramadan and so we interlink those holidays with their Islamic roots.
This subject is optional and taught within social and Moral education. It plays a great role in building an Emirate Character .
